The Longer, Shorter Path is the story and outlook of Moshe “Bogie” Ya'alon, former chief of General Staff of the IDF and former Israeli minister of defense, translated into English by Jessica Setbon.
Born in Kiryat Haim in 1950, Ya'alon was a co-founder of Kibbutz Grofit in the Arava before his long military career. In politics he served as vice prime minister, minister of strategic affairs and a Likud member of Knesset. He holds hawkish views on security, yet opposes a binational state, supports individual rights and has fought corruption in government, principles that led to his departure from the defense ministry in 2016.
The book takes on major issues on Israel's agenda, including his criticism of the submarine affair, the cabinet's conduct during Operation Protective Edge, and the ethical crisis of the Elor Azaria incident. Hardcover, 482 pages.
