This is the Hebrew edition of Livia Bitton-Jackson's Holocaust memoir I Have Lived a Thousand Years, published in Hebrew as חייתי אלף שנים: התבגרתי בשואה.
It is the story of a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl who, in about a year and a half, came of age surrounded by gas chambers, shootings, abuse and the constant threat of death. Ordinary people are taken from their homes into ghettos, concentration camps and labor camps, moved by train from place to place, starving and losing their families, and still they survive. In the girl's heart, hope and faith in God and in human goodness keep beating.
Livia, called Elli as a child, was born in Slovakia and after the war moved to the United States with her mother and brother. She tells her story to pass on one message: never give up. Paperback, Gefen, 2016.
