I am grateful to you for chronicling some of these countless stories and disseminating them, so that they can continue to resound and inspire across space and time.

I have no doubt that it is just the qualities that emerge from the pages of this book, qualities of selflessness and connectedness to our broader story, that will enable our nation to weather even the most trying circumstances.

I am hopeful that your work, beyond serving memory, will also serve to help us remember the power that we hold: the power to show up for one another, the power to find and empower what unites rather than what divides, and the restorative power of growth, rebuilding, and healing.
