The decade after the Six Day War was a decisive design period in the rebuilding of the destroyed Jewish quarter in Jerusalem. This book examines in depth the planning, restoration and preservation processes of the beginning of the district's restoration and the (sometimes contradictory) decision-making processes underlying them. The book discusses the part of the heritage, identities, values and diverse narratives of the Old City and the Jewish Quarter that are at the basis of decision-making, and the application of all of these by governmental, municipal, public, community and private bodies. Based on primary sources and many interviews, the geographical, cultural and social characteristics that influenced the rebuilding of the district are examined. Beyond an in-depth discussion of the place of heritage and its development up to the present day, the place of the Jewish quarter within the Old City and the changes that have occurred in these two areas in recent decades will also be discussed, with an emphasis on the renewed approaches to preservation that exist in the present.
