DR. FRED GOTTLIEB was born in 1929 in Siegburg, Germany, and ame to England in 1939 via the Kindertransport. He gained entry to he United States one year later. After earning his M.D., he practiced phthalmology for forty-fififive years, serving as department chairman nd director of the retina service at Brookdale Hospital, New York. Following his aliyah in 2003, he served as translator at Yad Vashem Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority and at the Israel Museum. He is the author of My Opa: The Diary of a German Rabbi and My Childhood in Siegburg.
