Gad Yair (PhD 1994 The Hebrew University of Jerusalem), is an associate professor and chair, The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He holds the Ann and Louis Wolens Chair in Educational Research. His academic interests are focused on sociological theory and its history and the sociology education. In recent years he studies the cultural bases of social theory—focusing on American, French, and German social theory. His studies on this theme appear in Sociology, European Journal of Social Theory, Max Weber Studies, the Open Sociology Journal, Sociological Review, and Journal of Classical Sociology. His latest books are The Golem and German Social Theory (with Michaela Soyer 2008); and Pierre Bourdieu: The Last Musketeer of the French Revolution (2009).
