Yehudit Ilan was just seven years old when the German conquered Holland. She grew up in the same neighborhood of Amsterdam as Anne Frank. Whereas Anne Frank went into hiding, and later perished in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camps, the author, also imprisoned at Bergen-Belsen, survived, and has recorder her vivid impressions of the terrible times.

Together with her family, Yehudit was taken at the end of 1943 to the Westerbork camp and from there to Bergen-Belsen, where her mother and father both perished. She and her sister were both liberated by the Russian army on April23, 1945. In 1948, Yehudit immigrated to the newly founded State of Israel, married, and built a family. After completing her academic studies, she devoted many years to teaching and to educational projects.

Both a legacy to her family members who perished, and to her destroyed community, Their Image Will Be Forever Before My Eyes also provides an important insight into the ways in which children in particular coped in such grave and desperate circumstances.
